Maybe I am nosy and/or have incredibly good hearing but part of the fun of going to restaurants and cafes is overhearing conversations. Sometimes it’s funny but usually, it’s mundane. I was waiting for a friend at a local Coffee Bean and after checking my phone, I happened to notice the party next to me. Since we were the only sitting patrons in an otherwise small area, I couldn’t help but overhear their conversation. (I feel this picture sufficiently camouflages everyone).
When I sat down, there was a job interview for a nanny position going on and it seemed like the interview was set up by a middleman/broker. The future nanny seemed pleasant but nervous and didn’t talk much. The mother kept getting interrupted by her son and after about 10 minutes, she point blank asked, “Are you legal?”
Yikes! I wasn’t expecting that. The nanny shook her head and the mother said, “Oh, then she can’t travel and that would be hard.” The broker jumped in and told her that she had state ID, could travel domestically and had traveled to Hawaii @ her last job. The mother seemed relieved and said that she would think about it but everything seemed OK and she would make her decision soon.
And in the spirit of outlaws, here’s a picture of policemen arresting a dude in SF Valley. Normally, I walk to the post office to mail off the half.com sales and it’s really quiet so imagine my surprise when I saw a cruiser pull over a car and the cops pulled out the handcuffs.
Not a good shot since I walked right next to them and the non-arresting cop kept glaring @ me so I put my phone away.
